چکیده

An experimental study of glacier ice detection in rain using X-band radar is presented. The radar data were collected in the Greenland Sea region in August 2013, using a cross-polarized X-band radar, capable of simultaneously measuring coand cross-polarized backscattered waves. The system was deployed on the Oden, a Swedish icebreaker. During the deployment, raw coand cross-polarized radar data were collected, including data from heavy ice states with bergy bits and growlers in rain. The rain clutter is improved by using the cross-polarization signal. The probability of detection of several growlers and bergy bits are obtained for both the coand cross-polarized radar signals in rain. Comparing the detection performance of the co-polarized and cross-polarized signals shows that the cross-polarized radar signal improves the detection of small glacier ice in rain at close ranges out to 5.5 nmi.

Performance comparison of dual-polarization X-band path attenuation and rainfall microphysical estimates with measured disdrometer raindrop spectra

Recent research has demonstrated the value of polarimetric measurements for the correction of rain-path attenuation at X-band radar frequency and the estimation of rain parameters including drop-size distributions (DSD). The standard remotely-sensed precipitation products, from large operational Sor C-band network radars, have spatial resolutions that are often too coarse to reveal hydrological...

Correction of X-Band Radar Observation for Propagation Effects Based on the Self-Consistency Principle

New algorithms for rain attenuation correction of reflectivity factor and differential reflectivity are presented. Following the methodology suggested for the first time by Gorgucci et al., the new algorithms are developed based on the self-consistency principle, describing the interrelation between polarimetric measurements along the rain medium. There is an increasing interest in X-band radar...

Deployment and Performance of an X-Band Dual-Polarization Radar during the Southern China Monsoon Rainfall Experiment

An X-band dual-polarization radar (XPRAD) was deployed in Guangdong province as part of the Southern China Monsoon Rainfall Experiment (SCMREX) during the storm season in 2016. This paper presents a comprehensive assessment of XPRAD observations during SCMREX with emphasis on data processing and rainfall products. The differential phase-based attenuation correction and radar calibration using s...

Three-stage inversion improvement for forest height estimation using dual-PolInSAR data

This paper addresses an algorithm for forest height estimation using single frequency single baseline dual polarization radar interferometry data. The proposed method is based on a physical two layer volume over ground model and is represented using polarimetric synthetic aperture radar interferometry (PolInSAR) technique. The presented algorithm provides the opportunity to take advantages of t...

Very Small Size ka Band 6 Bit DMTL Phase Shifter Based on Combination of Capacitor and Resonator Type Methods

Abstract- Design and simulation of a very small size 6-bit DMTL phase shifter is presented. The idea is based on using both capacitor and resonator type methods simultaneously in a phase shifter. The capacitor section creates less significant bits. The bits in this section start from the least significant bit, with 5.625-degree steps. The resonator section creates the bits with 90-degree steps....
